He will be missed by many / John Dean (Colleague) Words are not adequate to express my sense of loss with Nelson's passing. Our relationship began on opposite sides of the table, but I always respected Hammer's knowledge, sincerity and tenacity. Later in our careers, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work closely with him as partners to achieve international management for the resource, and its users, that he deeply cared for. I learned so much about swordfish and fishermen from him that I will always be indebted to him. He was a special person in my life. My thoughts are with his family, but they must know that we too will miss him. John Mark Dean
Godspeed Nelson! / Sharon McKenna (Colleague) Nelson was a daily presence in my life for many years. He taught me so much, not only about HMS or pelagic longline fishing, but about perseverance. He will be sorely missed for his personality and his incredible knowledge and his giggle. Terri, Ben and Justin, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Terri, Ben & Justin.. my heart goes out to you... Your all in my Prayers / Larry Sylvia (Freind, & More ) In the Years that I have gotten to know Hammer, I have only meet a few people in the world with his convictions, his love for his family, and his extended BWFA Family. He was like a tiger protecting us all, and doing this and his beliefs that there was a bigger picture and through education, trust, compromise there was never a CHALLENGE that could not be overcome...
All of us that were involved or continue to be involved in the HMS and fishing will miss his views, thoughts and love & compassion for us all.. In all my years in the seafood industry I never heard anyone say anything bad about Hammer. Yes they might disagreed or been on opersite sides of the issues, but they knew it came from his heart., and he unlike many lobbiest could stand in their shoes and beleive all of us could make the world a better place... That is just one of the legecies that Hammer left us all and if any of us can be so loved and respected from all sides is a real gift from above...
Hammer was just a few years older than I am, and it makes me thirst for life, and to make a differance in the World... Terri, Ben & Justin, if there is one thought I can give you is that Hammer made a differance, and through his efforts the world is a better place.. As the tears roll down my face, I cry not for the passing of Hammer, for that is something that we will never understand why someone is taken from us so young.. But I cry for the Joy and Expression of Love that I am a better person to have known, respected and loved Hammer..
Many of us wonder why we were put in this earth, we search a lifetime yet... Many of us that knew Hammer know why Hammer was put on this earth and he had a passion for family, freinds and BWFA/HMS expended family...I beleive in my heart that Nelson knew his calling in life... He has made a differance in thousands of peoples lives, and His views thoughts, opinions, letters, speaches and more will continue to make a differance in the future,...
With Love and yours in my Heart and Prayers

A sad loss for the family and the fishing community / Monique Melly (Friend of family )
Of all the times I have been over the house, I unfoturnetly never got to meet Nelson. I wish I had. From all the good things I've heard about him from his sons over the years and from all the great things he's accomplised for the fishing community, I know he was a great man and will be very missed. My condolences.
Godspeed Hammer / Karen (formerly Luedtke)Shobert (collegue of my ex-spouse ) Hammer embodied all that a "true" fisherman should and could be. Many years ago I met Hammer through my ex-father-in-law, Bob (Clammer) Luedtke and Marty Cassidy @ Viking Village. It was a pleasure to have known him for what short time I did. His tenacity in representing the plight of a commercial fisherman's livelihood gained him the legacy that he unfortunately now, leaves behind. God Bless Hammer and all of you. Please accept our deepest condolenscenes. Respectfully, Karen (formerly Luedtke)Shobert and Family Midwest City, OK

It is a shame when someone dies so young. / Tom Fote (Friend and colleague )
This article and Kirk Moore's article will be appearing in the next Jersey Coast Anglers Association Newspaper.
It is a shame when someone dies so young. Nelson Beideman passed away on Thursday May 25th.If you attended a Highly Migratory meeting in the last twenty years you knew Nelson.Nelson and I meet at one of those meetings in the 1980s. Nelson and I would disagree sometimes on the issue but we always did it with professionalisms.I had the greatest respect for his tenacity and the dedication he showed for the people he represented.I would tease him because he would get so serious and it was hard to get him to relax.
I had not seen Nelson in while since I have not been attending the HMS meetings.March of 2005 while attending a NMFS meeting in DC I ran into Nelson and we relaxed and had a couple of drinks together. We talked about old times and the many meetings we attended together. We talked about how much had changes but in some ways how little had really changed and how frustrating it was in dealing with NMFS on HMS Management. He asked me why I didn't start attending the HMS meetings again since he said he enjoyed my company and that I was a voice of reason.I thank him for the compliment but said I am leaving the HMS in his competent hands.I really appreciated what he had to say after all the years we knew each other. That was the last time we talked and I am sorry it will be the last.I will miss Nelson and so will the people he came in contact with. My prayers go out to Teri and their children.

BWFA and I are a better person because of Nelson. / Rollie Schmitten (friend) His passion for the BWFA and bringing a heathly fishery back to the people that he cared for is unequaled. I traveled the world with Hammer and gained a tremendous respect for what he stood for. I will miss him and am a better person for having known him. Rollie Schmitten
A passionate person who will be missed / Bobbi Walker (colleague)
Nelson represented his industry with passion and tenacity. It was a pleasure having the opportunity to work with him. Many people, including myself, will miss his presence. Please accept my sincere sympathy for your loss.
We'll miss you Hammer / Russell Nelson (Colleague)
Nelson and I disagreed on a lot of things. But I always liked his grit and impish sense of humor. I'll miss him. He left a lot with a lot of us.
